For this project, I re-designed the cover for Amanda Lindhout’s memoir A House in the Sky. The book follows her journey when she was taken as a hostage in Somalia. I chose to make an abstract cover inspired by the book’s themes of memories and mental stability. Amanda uses memories while in captivity to keep herself sane. On the cover, I used figures to represent her swirl of memories and emotions. Some figures are more faded to symbolize her earlier memories whereas others are more dominant. Each memory is what kept her strong throughout captivity. They make up her journey and the person she’s become.
